Solo Travel Perks

When you tell your friends and family that you’re leaving the county, they usually grab their pearls, rosary beads, or their chest in fear for your safety. While there is ALWAYS a reason to second guess your safety, and NEVER get too comfortable, leaving the country isn’t half as bad as one would think.

We have to acknowledge that there are reasons to fret for some, but there are reasons to smile and cry (the good kind of tears) at the experience at your finger tips. A lot of times people are concerned about certain places to go to, but the reality is, there are BAD and GOOD everywhere. If you have a place in mind you want to go to, do some research or hit me up and ask a few questions. In this day and age of technology, you can look up safe vs dangerous place in your dream location. If you don’t know where to start, don’t be shy and hit a sista’ up!

Once you get past the initial fears and get your planning in order, you’ll find that you’ll have reasons to smile, starting with packing your clothes to imagining where you’ll be staying. Your safety becomes an after thought and your inner Wonder Woman or Super Man comes out and you tell yourself you can do this!

Some of the reasons I smiled on my solo vacay was being able to get around and feel comfortable enough to ask and get as straight forward as I need to be. In Croatia, specifically, the people are very generous with assistance, and sometimes even service. As explained in previous posts, you could leave your belongings any and everywhere and people won’t bother it, not the locals at least. Everyone is eager to practice their English or get good business. The exchange rate is good at 1:6.5. For every dollar you get 6 and 1/2 kuna (the local currency), so you can get a decent amount of spending money IF you try more local businesses (which is the point of exploring and adventures , right?). If you choose to only do what you see on a brochure then you can still budget according to the prices they give you. My tip is to enjoy what the country has to offer, businesses to food. They charge the local prices and you get more (authentic) bang for your buck. They accept Euros as well.

I did VERY little spending as the local gentlemen were kind enough to buy me drinks and tapas(perks or nah?). The best part was the good conversation and the politeness. You could leave, walk away, they’ll say goodnight respectably and go back to enjoying themselves(perk! no guy harasses you!). It is a laid back county and vibes, and the scenery takes the cake. I loved everything about it, and my growth was a jump of a lifetime.(SUPER perk!)

I got free boat rides (perkity, perk, perk), gentlemen who helped with my bags, and my 5’5 self got my luggage around as well! Each air bnb host was helpful with assisting me with my Large luggage and Large duffle bag. I’m going to do a post on packing somewhere along a journey with all the tips that come with hopping around.
